Boba Fett Potholders

Wedding gifts
When going to a wedding, it is customary to bring some gift to the couple, and most have a list of what tableware or other stuff they want. The friends who are getting married on February 4th say they have everything, and don't need anything. Late suggested I make something for them, since at least one half appreciates handmade things. I also know she is a big fan of Star Wars...
First that came to my mind was the logo of the Galactic Empire. It looks cool and also I know the bride prefers Empire to the Rebels.
Around last Christmas there were some links around to Star Wars snowflake patterns. The kind you cut from paper. I figured the same pictures would work as applications, using two different fabrics. Stormtrooper is by far the best looking and they are obviously Imperials, so it was the clear winner. Since making two of the same is boring, I chose Boba Fett to be the other one. He is affiliated closer to the Empire anyway.
Mats and making
I bought black and white bed sheet fabric and some bias binding, also in black and in white, to go around the edge. My mother had some insulation wadding that she gave me.
I first cut my paper templates, then used them to draw the patterns on the fabric. After cutting the patterns I sewed them by hand to the background, so that the corners will not move when zigzagging the edges. Zigzag width 2.0, length 0.5 (so I can check when I forgot what works for these sort of things). The edges frayed a bit when zigzagging, but otherwise looking good. Imperial logos were the hardest, Boba Fett the easiest.
After finishing all the zigzagging, I cut two 20cm x 20cm pieces from the insulation wadding. I paired Stormtrooper with the black logo on white background, Boba with the white on black, so the colors are reversed on the different sides of both potholders. Used bias that matched Stormie/Boba respectively. Made a loop for hanging from one end of the bias binding.
Some small mistakes, but over all these turned out quite good.
This was a triumph.
I'm making a note here: HUGE SUCCESS.
It's hard to overstate my satisfaction.
